I cannot believe we are half way through June! I know I speak for most of us when I say that 2020 has not gone as expected! Nevertheless, it can still be your year! I’ve come up with a list of 8 healthy habits to incorporate into your daily routine over the next 6 months. The habits listed are nothing new but it takes consistency to realize how important they are and you will simply start to see and feel the benefits after a few weeks. I suggest that you start by picking one of the eight habits to really knuckle down and focus on for a few weeks before moving on to the next. Take it from someone who has tried to do them all at once and failed miserably! It’s a slow process and a very beneficial one at that. Today is a fresh start to make a healthy change in your life!
Habit number 1: Drink more water! The benefits of water are amazing! It clears your skin, stops you from overeating and obviously keeps you hydrated! I recently bought this MOTIVATIONAL water bottle from Amazon! It sounds hilarious but its a great way to make sure you’re getting in your much needed H2O! The water bottle has certain times listed on it, so for example in the morning the first thing you do is drink water by 7am and then again at 9am etc. You’re able to make sure that you drink enough water while spreading it out throughout the day. Keep in mind that this water bottle is huge, 64 oz is A LOT of water!
At the start of the year I bought the 5 minute journal from Urban Outfitters and I have nothing but great things to say about it! It has honestly changed my whole perspective! Starting your day with a grateful heart is amazing, its a time where you can appreciate the little things that during a busy day you sometimes might take for granted. I love taking the time to reflect and write down those and that which I appreciate. I always write down 3 things I am grateful for, 3 things that would make the day great, and a positive affirmation. At night I write down 3 things that went well that day. A positive mindset can make the biggest difference to your life!
I know, I know agh exercise! BUT it doesn’t have to be like that. Don’t force yourself to do something you don’t enjoy! Where’s the fun in that?! Nowadays there are so many different types of exercises that you can do, whether its yoga, pilates, lifting weights, running, swimming, boxing, the list goes on and on! Find something you love and enjoy, even if it’s just going for a walk. Take the time to make exercise a priority, get your blood flowing and start to feel good. I’ve been using my treadmill during quarantine, I love running so I make sure to incorporate 30 minutes into my daily routine. Before the lockdown I attended OrangeTheory everyday and LOVED IT! It’s a high intensity workout and it is so much fun! Try it out if there is a location near you, you won’t regret it!
Another healthy habit to start is making skin care a priority. Looking after your skin by keeping it clean and moisturized will prevent premature aging and breakouts. I love the Ole Hendrinkson vitamin C range from Sephora and Suki skincare from Costco! These two products have transformed my skin and it has never looked better! Start with a cleanser to get rid of dirt build up, I alternate between Ole Hendrikson and Suki. Suki is more of an exfoliator and is great for getting rid of dead skin. Finish off with a moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. I cannot stress enough how important SPF is for your skin. Protect yourself from skin cancer by apply a layer everyday, regardless of the weather! It cosmetics CC cream tinted moisturizer is perfect because it already has SPF in it!
One thing I have benefited from by owning two puppies is their morning and afternoon walks! I think if I didn’t have them I wouldn’t have even thought to take time out of my day to be outside. Walking outside and being fully present in the moment is honestly one of my favorite parts of my day. It’s so important to get fresh and a little bit of sunshine! Enjoy the little things while you walk, maybe it’s a garden full of flowers, birds chirping and people passing by. Okay it doesn’t need to be all fairytale like, but just taking time to be outdoors is good for the soul! It will help you clear your mind and maybe make your day!
I’ve made reading a priority this year, and when I think back to past years I don’t think I read more than 10 books since school days! My goal this year is to read 24 books , two a month and I’ve currently read 12! It seems quite daunting but once you get hooked into a book, it can be and generally is better than TV! A book I throughly enjoyed reading recently was Where The Crawdads Sing. I LOVED this book! It has a slow start but once you get to know the character you never want the book to end!
Now this is a tricky one, we have been so accustomed to going on our phone that its totally normal to spend 2 to 4 hours on it a day! With all these cool apps why take a break? I for one truly battle with this, I want to promote my blog so I’m on Instagram a lot! However there is this ‘fun’ feature on our phone that allows you to limit the amount of time spent on each app. You can set it to an hour a day or whatever you require. Setting yourself a limit allows you to make time for other things that are important to you, like reading, walking outside, and spending time with loved ones.
I’ve left the best for last! I don’t want to dig too deep into this one because I will be posting a blog post about this soon but writing down your goals and focusing on them is one of the best things you can do for yourself. You are able to accomplish just about anything if you know where you’re headed and what direction you want to take in your life. Making a goals list for the year, month and the day has helped me tremendously. Read over your goals list every day and with the right mindset and hard work, you can accomplish them!
